I really, really hope that doesn't come to pass.

Then Gencon will probably be done.  Permanently.I don't see 2 years missed with no revenue and coming back from that.

Which is the biggest reason I hope it doesn't come to pass.

Gencon is already operating on capacity restrictions. Although Marion County ended them earlier this year Gencon didn't sell extra badges after they were lifted. So I think going back to them is already a contingency Gencon planned for.

QUESTION: Instead of wrist bands for the vaccinated, can we get badge stickers instead? I hate wearing a band especially for five days straight. Or a sticker that we can apply to the front of our badge holders? Heck, I'll wear my vaccination card in the front of my badge holder if it'd help... I'd even buy a t-shirt that says "I'm with vaccine" or some clever thing...

Personally, I wish I could just roll up my sleeve and show my small pox mark as proof of vaccination. You'd think that everyone in my age group who has been vaccinated for small pox, measles, rubella and polio would also line up for the covid shot...

Badge stickers can easily be removed and applied to another badge, or simply switched.

Good point.

How about a shaped punch?  or two?

And I apologize if it seems like we're reaching for an alternative. I know that I can't be alone in this but I can't sleep while wearing "extras" like a wrist band or jewelry. I'll gladly show up at the medical room to get a new strip every day. It's too bad nearly anything we'd come up with could be transferable. (BTW, I'll be damned before I'll share my vaccination identity with an unvaxxed. I feel we've had enough time for everyone to get their shots plus I hate people who "ghost" at conventions.)

I'm also thinking about just wearing my vaxx card over my badge. ACTUALLY (idea here!), could we get a two sided badge holder? Show the badge out of the front and the vaxx card out of the back? I could wear it and flip it if anyone asked about the vaxx.

I actually took an old badge holder (just the plastic sleeve) and re-purposed it as a vaxx card holder since they are the same size as the badges. I'll put it on the lanyard just behind my badge this year. Easy solution for me to implement and that way its readily available if required for something, or if people want to know.

Having your vaxx cards available is not going to cut it.  The reason they are using the bracelets is for quick identification, the same way they color-code the badges by day.  Security is not going to stop & hold up a line so they can read your vaxx card any time you try and enter an area (like the Exhibit Hall) while not wearing a mask.

Then when someone asks about, the target of the question screams 'HIPPA!' and refuses to turn their badge.  Sorry, don't see that idea working with the behavior many have shown towards this.

I get that, I'm going to get a bracelet or whatever odd plan they have, I'm saying in addition to, that's how I will be keeping it on me. Their playground, their rules. I'm good with that.

The way things are going it's more likely that masks are just mandated for everyone. Its what the CDC is moving to and that way no one can complain about HIPAA. Easier to enforce as the masks are easy to spot.

Possible.  But I hope not.

Everyone knows that the way forward is vaccines, not masks. Both are better than nothing, but one is far, far more effective. This is why there are incentives out there.

We need places like Gen Con and others to provide incentive too.  Personally, I wish they just REQUIRED vaccines.  But even if they stay on track with the wrist bands, that still provides incentives to people to get the shot.

We need to he thinking long term.

HIPPA doesn’t apply to private business or organizations.

Yeah, but try explaining that to those who wield it like it's a magic word. It'd get tiresome really quickly, plus every encounter like that is another chance for a massive scene and/or brawl to erupt.

For the "What are others doing" list:
I attended a local gaming convention this weekend. No proof of vaccinations, no badge. Some were angry, some went off on social media, one got banned for active social media trolling. By active trolling, I mean he found others who were attending and privately messaged them in an attempt to persuade them. Everyone knew weeks in advance of the policy and you could request a refund.

Everyone who entered through the convention center door was asked for proof. However, since we were in a hotel and located between the pool and half of the rooms we constantly had non-attendees parading through our central hall.

We had ribbons that read "Vaccinated 2021" but they were moot since everyone was supposed to be vaccinated. I just slid mine into my pure plastic badge holder so I could flip it to show my ribbon. Masks were uncommon, maybe about 10%.

What state?

Is the area in a hotspot or under a mask order?

These 2 statements are not compatible.

Yes they are. It's a tad confusing, but the gist was that the con required people to be vaccinated to attend which is why proof was required. But the hallway open to the public didnt require proof and masks were not worn.

And "no proof of vaccinations, no badge" means "if you do not have a vaccination, you do not get a badge," not "this convention required neither proof of vaccination nor badges."  I had to re-read the opening after reading the whole message to realize what it was saying.
