Event Team


It takes a village to make a convention the size of Gen Con possible! Join the ranks of the best and become a member of the Gen Con Event Team.

You provide time, talent, and expertise in exchange for varied levels of compensation and an opportunity to meet people who share similar interests. Who knows, maybe you'll even discover a new appreciation for the show.

The Event Team roles are paid positions with benefits based on the amount of time you want to dedicate during the convention. It is open to those at least 18 years of age.

For those who are interested in becoming a part of the Gen Con family, learning the ins and outs of running a convention, and are prepared to work more than 36 hours over the course of the show, apply at the Apprentice Level of our Mentorship Program and work your way up through the ranks!

Interested in joining? Applications for the Event Team Apprentices go live on January 13 at noon (Eastern) and must be completed by June 30.

New Program (Former Page Program)

  • Pages are utilized in all areas of the show; from helping with special events, running errands, handing out coupon books, checking badges, stocking program book bins, line control, etc.
  • Pages must commit to working a minimum of 16 hours.
  • Shifts are scheduled in four-hour increments.
  • New for 2019! Pages are recruited and coordinated through our staffing agency BCforward Gencon@BCforward.com and are no longer part of the Event Team Program.

BENEFITS

  • 4-day Badge (Acquired through the staffing agency)

MENTORSHIP LEVEL 1 - APPRENTICE (36-40 HOURS)

  • Apprentices are assigned to a department or Captain to learn the ins and outs of departmental positions.
  • Apprentices are encouraged to work the show as a Page for at least a year before applying for Apprenticeship to get a sense of the show and decide if this is truly the route you wish to take.
  • Limited number of Apprentice positions are available each year.

MENTORSHIP LEVEL 2 - DEPUTY (40 HOURS)

  • After 1-2 years as an Apprentice and depending on peer reviewed performance assessments, Apprentices become eligible for promotion to Deputy.
  • Deputies are given more leadership responsibilities at the show and are often placed in charge of certain areas if Captains are not available. They are part of the Gen Con Event Team and must be knowledgeable in their particular department as well as Gen Con's Show Policies and Event Team Policies.
  • Deputy positions are invite only.

DEPUTY BENEFITS

  • Hotel accommodations to be shared with one other Deputy or Captain
  • Flexible daily schedule, determined with the rest of your team
  • Access to the Staff Lounge in the Show Office
  • One Event Team Vest - to be returned at the end of the show
  • One complimentary "Event Team" badge
  • $10 system credit to your Gen Con account
  • Points accrued to be "Spent" on Gen Con Swag donated annually by Exhibitors

MENTORSHIP LEVEL 3 - CAPTAIN (40 HOURS)

  • After 1-2 years as a Deputy, depending on peer reviewed performance assessments, Deputies are eligible for promotion to Captain.
  • Gen Con views Captains like second family. They are onsite leaders, have authority over their specific areas, and report directly to a Gen Con department head. All Captains must be knowledgeable in their specific areas as well as Gen Con's Show Policies and Event Team Policies. Many Captains come in before the show opens up to help with set-up, sometimes starting as early as Sunday afternoon.
  • Captain positions are invite only.

CAPTAIN BENEFITS

  • Airfare or travel accommodation to and from convention+
  • If driving, mileage reimbursement to and from convention and parking fees if arranged with your department head before the show+
  • Hotel accommodations to be shared with one other Deputy or Captain
  • Flexible daily schedule, determined with the rest of your team
  • Access to the Staff Lounge in the Show Office
  • One Event Team Vest
  • One complimentary "Event Team" badge
  • $20 system credit to your Gen Con account
  • Points accrued to be "Spent" on Gen Con Swag donated annually by Exhibitors

+ Travel expenses exceeding maximum budget amounts will be the responsibility of the Captain. Mileage reimbursement rates are paid out at current IRS standard.

* Badge refunds will be processed via the original method of payment within six (6) weeks of a completed time card.

** Hourly rate, less applicable federal and state taxes, paid via direct deposit two weeks after the show.
