Daggerheart, a high-fantasy TTRPG from Darrington Press (publishing arm of Critical Role if that means anything), launches in Spring 2025 and has been demoed at GenCon 2023 & 2024 (4-hour events) and PAXU 2024 (45-minute chunks). With the rules available by GenCon 2025, I’m curious what types of events would interest players. While Darrington Press will likely host their own games, I’m considering creating an independent event. As a "forever DM," I use GenCon to explore systems beyond D&D 5e and see if they’d work for my players. While playing pre-gens is fun, I sometimes wish I could experience character creation to understand the system better. At GenCon 2023, Daggerheart featured character creation paired with a Mad-Lib style one-shot created at the table, which later appeared in the Open Beta. By 2024, pre-gens and a structured adventure were used instead.I love how Daggerheart’s collaborative character creation fosters party cohesion with just a few prompts. It’s what hooked me on the system. Would a 4-hour event with character creation and a customized Mad-Lib adventure interest you? (45-minute character creation and Mad-Lib, 3-hour play time, ADVERTIZED as such) Do you think the Mad-Lib format showcases the system’s strengths? slope game

A structured 4-hour event with character creation and a Mad-Lib adventure sounds like a fantastic way to showcase Daggerheart’s strengths! The collaborative character creation process is one of the system’s standout features, and pairing it with a dynamic, player-driven adventure could highlight its flexibility and storytelling potential. I’d personally love an event that offers both pre-gens for those who just want to jump in and a character creation option for those eager to explore the system deeper. Maybe even splitting sessions into "Quick Start" (pre-gens) and "Full Experience" (character creation + adventure) could cater to different player preferences. Has anyone who played at GenCon or PAXU found one format more engaging than the other?
