Purchase generics in advance?
Posted by iplaygreentoledo

Member of the first-timer's club here...

I was able to register for a couple of games and events.  If I want to buy generics, do I pre-buy those?  Can I have e-generics (is that a thing?)?  My events are all e-ticketed and my badge is getting mailed.  Will I need to stand in a line to purchase generics?

Thank you for your response!

You can buy generics now by clicking the "Generic Tickets" button at the top left of the debt catalogue screen, above the categories (at least that's where it is on mobile)

Generics are paper tickets but you can use the for eticket events. They will get mailed to you with your badge as long as you buy them before the shipping deadline.

To add to this, there's also a place to buy them at the convention itself. It's pretty easy.

On top of that, if you buy too many, you can return them for system credit. But minus a processing fee... so there is a cost for doing so. That said, it's better than just throwing them away, since they won't carry over to next year.

Regardless, you can pre-order them and get them shipped to you, and/or buy them (or more of them) in-person onsite. All ways work.

They don't carry over to next year. Turn them back in for credit.

Please don't try to use them the following year. You think you are pulling a 'fast one' on Gen Con but really you are just screwing us event organizers. They get mixed in - we don't get credit for them (because we should have noticed when collected them) and we are the ones who get shorted. I pull out dozens of them every single year and only track down the butthead players trying to use them about half the time (always with some lame excuse).

Must refund them at the Customer Service kiosk onsite.
As has been stated they do not roll over to next year. Only for system credit that is non-refundable and does not expire.

Last day/time to refund them is the Sunday of the convention before 4 pm (This year Sunday the 4th)

If you're feeling generous you can also drop generics off at the Tower of Gaxx charity meatgrinder & the $2 will go toward whatever cause they're supporting this year.

Thanks for the tips!  I bought some off the site and I'm happy to donate unused ones to a good cause.

Just to officially repeat it again: do not donate tickets of any sort to an event you do not actually participate in. Tickets are used to track attendance, demand, traffic flow, etc. and are not just money.

If you have the resources, I certainly encourage you to donate directly to applicable charities, but please only use tickets as tickets to participate in events. Starting from that undermines the data and will ultimately get the GM in question a stern talking-to.

Events that use paper tickets would have no ability to collect e-generics. For those that use e-tickets, you can buy the ticket at the event itself, assuming you have internet access, so they have no need for e-generics.

You can buy generics at many of the event-area help desks, which don't usually accumulate a line. You do not need to go to the main Event Registration line.

Generic tickets have a day and time on them. (Thursday @ 8am) I'm assuming this is just the earliest timeframe for which they can be used. That said, does this matter? I plan on using them for a event (if space is available) on Friday.

Yes, just a time stamp. They are good for the entire convention.
