It may be weird but one of my favorite traditions is the opening ceremony on Thursday. Has anyone heard if Gencon is doing a virtual opening ceremonies?
We will be doing Opening Ceremonies and Closing Ceremonies, yes. Should be a bit more involved, too, but we'll see how that works out.
Both will be streamed on https://www.twitch.tv/gencontv and will be added to the schedule soon.

Is there permission to stream the opening and closing ceremonies on our own streams?
I scheduled my first event (playing D&D through twitch chat) for 1pm so I could watch any opening events. Would be great if I can start the stream and then roll into my event.
You can certainly host them on your own Twitch channel, if you would like, but you won't be able to stream live to your own channel, no.
Will the opening ceremonies be at 10am Thursday?
No, all events for Gen Con Online start at noon Eastern on Thursday or later.
Opening Ceremonies is in the registration system, so you can add it to your schedule: noon Eastern Thursday.
